Alaskan Red King Crab

The world's deadliest catch, captured in the icy Alaskan waters of the Bering Sea

From the treacherous and unforgiving waters of the Bering Sea comes the extremely sought-after delicacy: Alaskan Red King Crab.

Fleets of boats battle blizzard conditions in violent seas to achieve catch quotas that will pay their wages for the year—and one taste of this sweet, white crabmeat and the risk all makes sense.

The meat is cooked at sea, ice-glazed through minus 10 degrees sea water for two minutes before being packed into cartons from 7-25kg and blast-frozen at sea to minus 50°C.

Alaskan Red King Crab can be enjoyed either by thawing gently until the desired temperature is achieved, or immersed in boiling water for 4-5 minutes, which results in the meat as fresh and succulent as if freshly caught and cooked.

Alaskan Red King Crab is a delicacy most often enjoyed simply—straight from the shell. It is sold as frozen clusters in 7-25kg boxes, which can be removed in clusters of three legs plus claw.

The rich crab meat is versatile, used in an extensive range of recipes, from salads to omelettes, as well as fresh, Australian-style, with minimal preparation.
